The Parks Forward Commission will meet on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Sacramento at the California Natural Resources Agency Auditorium (1416 Ninth Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.) The public is welcome to attend.

In February 2015, the 12-member Parks Forward Commission adopted its long-term plan for a financially sustainable and relevant California State Park System. The recommendations were developed after nearly two years of outreach and study that included public meetings, discussions with State Parks leadership and staff, surveys, social media interaction, and independent analyses conducted for the Commission. Responding to the recommendations, the Department of Parks and Recreation has now completed a two-year transformation effort to implement improvements within the Department.

At its May 22 meeting, the Commission will discuss the status of transformation and priorities for 2017-2018 with Department Director Lisa Mangat. The Potrero Group consultants will update the Commission on the findings of their feasibility study for a statewide nonprofit organization to support parks and the Commission will learn about a partnership project in the redwoods. There will be an opportunity for public comment. A meeting agenda will be posted to the Parks Forward web site prior to the meeting.
