Public Outreach

Public input is a critical piece of the Parks Forward process.  In order to facilitate comment from Park users, partnering organizations, and other stakeholders, the Initiative held two series of public workshops.  The first series, done in collaboration with the California State Park and Recreation Commission, included of 10 workshops throughout the state in September and October 2013.  The workshops gathered new ideas on how to improve efficiency, create financial sustainability, and better leverage partnerships within California State Parks.  A list of dates, locations, and speakers from this series is found here.

The workshops were professionally facilitated by Kearns & West, an independent collaboration and strategic communications firm.  Kearns & West’s summary documents of the workshops are below.

The second series of public workshops was held in late May and early June of 2014.  The purpose of these workshops was to gather input on the recommendations of the April 23rd Staff Draft Report.  The recommendations focus on creating a more effective California Department of Parks and Recreation to better provide park access to all Californians, engage young people, protect our state’s treasured natural and cultural resources and create healthy communities.  Dates, venues and agenda from these workshops are found here.

These workshops were again professionally facilitated by Kearns & West, an independent firm.  Kearns & West's summary documents are found below.

Input from these workshops is helping to inform the next iteration of the Parks Forward Commission's plan, along with feedback from department staff, Park partnering organizations and other stakeholders.  Though it is not the intent of the Commission to address every comment made, this public feedback is critical to creating an effective plan. The Commission greatly appreciates the time and energy stakeholders devoted to these sessions, as well as their many other contributions to the Parks Forward process.

All public workshops were webcast live on www.cal-span.org and are archived on that site for viewing at any time.

The Parks Forward Commission continues to solicit public input via the comment box on this site and info@parksforward.com.  We appreciate your feedback.
